Children’s Health Coverage Continues through the Medi-Cal Program
As of January 1, 2013, there are no new enrollments of children into the Healthy Families Program (HFP). However, the Medi-Cal Program will continue to provide health, dental and vision benefits to California’s uninsured children. Medi-Cal coverage will now go up to the HFP income level and provide coverage to all children that were previously HFP eligible.
Families with uninsured children can continue to apply for coverage through various existing application avenues which include the online Health-e-Application (HeApp) at www.healtheapp.net; telephone application through the toll-free line at 1-800-880-5305 (or to request an application be mailed to you); or down load an application.
For families with children currently enrolled in HFP, you will be notified in writing when your children will be moved into the Medi-Cal Program. The first group of HFP children moved to the Medi-Cal Program on January 1, 2013. If you have any questions about when your HFP child will be moved, call the toll-free line at 1-866-848-9166.
For more information on the HFP Transition to Medi-Cal, you can access the Frequently Asked Questions at www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/hf/Pages/HFPFAQ.aspx. You can also call the toll-free line at 1-800-430-4263.
We encourage all families with uninsured children to apply for coverage for their children through the Medi-Cal Program.
