Checking Application Status
What you can do to find the status of your NEW application.
Step 1
Using your home phone number, family member number, or the bar code number at the bottom of your Healthy Families and Medi-Cal For Families application, call 1-800-880-5305. This is the automated telephone system which can tell you if the application has been forwarded to either the Healthy Families Program or the local Medi-Cal Program. You can press “0” at any time to speak to a Customer Service Representative. Within approximately 4 business days from receipt of an application, you can know to which program your application was sent. Remember: The age of a child and the income of the parent (not step-parent) will determine which program the child may be eligible for. Sometimes, one child may screen to Medi-Cal while the other children’s application may screen to Healthy Families.
Call 1-800-880-5305, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Step 2
If your application was forwarded to the Healthy Families Program, you will be contacted by phone and mail within approximately 7 business days from receipt of an application. We will tell you if there is anything missing from the application or if we need more information. You will have 17 days from the date we received your application at Healthy Families to send us what we need. Within 20 days from the receipt of the application at Healthy Families, it will either be approved or denied.
What if Healthy Families denies my application? What can I do?
If you disagree with a decision of the Healthy Families Program, you can appeal. Information about how to appeal the decision will be included with the denial letter Healthy Families sends to you.
If you have NEW income papers or other NEW information you would like Healthy Families to review, send it to us within 60 days of the date of our decision to deny enrollment. You must write your Family Member Number on everything you send us to the following address or FAX:

If you do not understand the decision or need more information, call Healthy Families at 1-866-848-9166. You can call between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Healthy Families will not review any NEW information received after 60 days from the decision to deny the enrollment. After 60 days, you will have to submit a new application.
